WILMINA GROOTERS

Wilmina “Mina” Grooters, the daughter of Herman and Lucy (Dykstra) Vander Maten was born June 27, 1919 in Boyden, Iowa. She graduated from Boyden High School and then graduated from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa. On May 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to L. V. “Tuffy” Grooters in Boyden. After their marriage the couple settled in Boyden. Mina taught school in the Boyden-Hull School District for 28 years retiring in 1979. The couple’s married life was spent in Boyden until moving to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon. Mina became a resident of the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn in August of 2005. Her husband preceded her in death on September 16, 2008 in Sheldon. Mina passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010 at Prairie View, reaching the age of 90 years, 6 months and 11 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and a former member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden. She was a member of the RCWM and was the church organist at First Reformed in Boyden for 40 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Boyden and enjoyed quilting, reading, writing and crossword puzzles. Tuff and Mina faithfully attended all Boyden-Hull and Northwestern College football and basketball games.
Mina is survived by her two sons and their wives, Dr. Ronald and Kay Grooters of West Des Moines, Iowa and Daryl and Amy Grooters of Boyden, Iowa; also 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two sisters, Matilda Vander Maten of Sioux City and Harriet and her husband, Rich Vande Hoef of Sibley; also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother, Frank Vander Maten and one sister, Cornelia Kosters.
