WILLIAM REEKERS

William (Bill) Reekers, the son of Henry and Jane (Mouw) Reekers was born August 18, 1908 in Sioux Center, Iowa. When he was two years old, he moved with his family to a farm northeast of Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education in Floyd Township country school until the 8th grade. After his schooling he made his home with his sister and her husband and worked for his brother-in-law during the growing years. He also worked in harvesting in North Dakota and Minnesota, before going to Detroit, Michigan to work for General Motors. On August 18, 1933, he was united in marriage to Helen Hosch in Trenton, Missouri. The couple lived in Detroit for 2 years, later moving to a farm in the Hospers, Iowa area. The couple farmed there for 13 years until moving to Denver, Colorado, where he worked in construction. The couple made their home there for 12 years before retuning to Iowa to farm the family farm northeast of Sheldon. The couple has resided there and Bill has continued to help in the farming even in his retirement years. He passed away on Sunday, October 14, 2007 at the Sanford Sheldon Senior Care, residing there since October 2, 2007. Bill reached the age of 99 years, 1 month and 26 days.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon and was on the building committee for the present church. He was also a member of the Prairie Queen Kiwanis of Sheldon. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, dancing and spending time with his family.
Bill leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 74 years, Helen of Sheldon; a daughter, Karen Peter of St. Charles, Missouri and a son and his wife, Merle and Susan Reekers of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cindy Walker, Marita Schuler, Scott and David Reekers and Mark Peter; five great-grandchildren, Jessica and Brandon Walker, Coleton Schuler, Alexandia and Andrew Peter; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

After Glow

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an after glow
of smiles when life is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
Of happy times and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve,
to dry before the sun
Of happy memories that I leave when life is done.

A friendly smile, a casual touch,
These are the things that mean so much.

To know you are with us in our time of sorrow,
Sharing our prayers, today and tomorrow.

God gives us comfort in the form of good friends,
May His peace be with you, His love never ends
