William Lammers Jr., the son of William D. and Gertie (Van Veldhuizen) Lammers, was born October 19, 1926 near Newkirk, Iowa. As a small child, he moved with his parents to Sioux Center and when he was 8 years old they moved to a farm west of Sheldon where he attended a Sioux County country school. After finishing school, he helped his dad on the farm and worked for area farmers before joining the Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Sheldon and started farming west of Sheldon. On October 19, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lucille Achterhoff in Rock Valley, Iowa. The couple made their home on that farm for the next 39 years, before retiring and moving into Sheldon in 1993. Bill passed away on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 78 years, 4 months and 14 days.
Bill was a charter member of the Bethel Reformed Church in Sheldon, served on the board of directors for the Farmers Co-op Elevator. He enjoyed having coffee at the Kum & Go, going fishing and John Deere tractors. But most of all he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports.
Bill is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lucille Lammers of Sheldon, IA; a son, Jim Lammers of Sheldon, IA & his fiancé, Karla West; and 2 daughters and their husbands, Wanda & Jeff Peters of Jewell, Iowa; Nancy & Craig Linscheid of Johnston, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Amanda & Darren Huitink; Amelia & Abigail Lammers; Molly, Maggie, Luke & Logan Peters; Emily, Kayla & Benjamin Linscheid; 2 sisters and their spouses, Fannie & Norm Menning of Rock Valley, Iowa; Elizabeth and Jim Dykstra of Orange City, IA; a brother-in-law, Max McGinnis of Cheyenne, WY; a sister-in-law, Karen Lammers of Ireton, IA; he is also survived by 3 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends.
