WILLIAM J. KAMSTRA
William John Kamstra, the son of John and Emma (DeJager) Kamstra was born July 9, 1929 at Hawarden, Iowa. He received his education in a country school near McNally, Iowa. On October 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to Evelyn Meerdink at Hull, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed at Ireton and later moving to a farm near Sheldon. He enjoyed all aspects of farming including milking cows and raising livestock, planting and harvesting the crops and helping his children with 4-H projects. He worked hard along with friends and neighbors stacking bales on many flatbeds. For over 25 years, Bill also drove truck for Van Wyk Trucking in Sheldon. He liked the people he met on the road and made many friends in his travels. His retirement years were spent in Sheldon. He passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2006 at the Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon, reaching the age of 77 years, 2 months and 1 day.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Bill had a great love for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “Uncle Bill” loved his sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews. Bill treasured his years going on wagon trains with his team Dude and Babe and entering them in many parades both in Iowa and Minnesota. Bill enjoyed riding his horse, Sugar.
Left to cherish his memory, his wife, Evelyn of Sheldon; a daughter, Eileen Martens of Sheldon; three sons, Butch Kamstra of Sheldon, Iowa; Terry and his wife, Kay Kamstra of Sheldon; Arlan and his wife, Laura Kamstra of Albuquerque, New Mexico; ten grandchildren, Lindsay, B.J., Krystal, Christine, Karen, Patience, Matthew, Luke, Elizabeth and Margaret; three great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Shelby and Beau; a sister, Jean Goslinga of Orange City, Iowa; two brothers, Tony and Gloria Kamstra of Quincy, Washington; Peter and his wife, Diane Kamstra of Orange City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Madeline Houstma of Visalia, California; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Ed and Arlene Meerdink of Hartley, Iowa; Marvin and Betty Meerdink of Hull, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Jennie Kamstra and Leona Otten and a brother, Whip Kamstra.

Bill had a strong faith and a love for the Lord.
