WILLARD H. NIEUWENDORP
Willard Henry Nieuwendorp, the son of Jake H. and Anna (DeJong) Nieuwendorp was born August 26, 1939 on the family farm by Sheldon near Ritter, Iowa. He received his education in a country school. On June 30, 1967, he was united in marriage to Floydelle “Kay” MaKay Sudenga in George, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in Sheldon for a short time before moving on the family farm in November of 1967. The couple farmed, raised hogs and had dairy until 1988 when they moved into Sheldon. Willard worked for many years as a school bus driver for Sheldon schools, at DHi, Crown Fork, Tasteful Delights at the Sheldon Country Club. Before he retired, Willard worked for 12 years at the Hy-Vee Deli in Sheldon. For the past year Willard had been a resident of the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon. He passed away at Sanford Sheldon Medical Center reaching the age of 72 years, 3 months and 15 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and taught Sunday School. He was a member of the Gideon's and their prison ministries, Toastmasters, as well as volunteering at Senior Care in Sheldon. He enjoyed his family and taught his son the ways of the farm and his girls cooking through the Hy-Vee deli. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He enjoyed solving puzzles together and every year since 1979, he read the Bible from cover to cover.
Willard is survived by his wife, Floydelle “Kay” of Sheldon; children, James “Jim” and his wife, Tina Nieuwendorp of Sheldon; Karen and her husband, Tom De Boom of Sheldon and Kristi and her husband, Shiran Nathaniel of Sioux City; six grandchildren, Lexie, Brian and Laney Nathaniel, Jacob and Jenna Sample and Joshua Nieuwendorp; brothers and sisters, Leora and her husband, Jim Golda of Herron Lake, MN; Rev. Robert and his wife, Lois Nieuwendorp of Phoenix, Arizona; Gladys and her husband, Harold Van Vedhuizen of Sheldon and Marv Nieuwendorp of Sheldon; a brother-in-law, Duane Harmelink of Spencer; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and sister in infancy, two sisters, Thelma Harmelink and Carolyn Nieuwendorp and a brother, James Nieuwendorp.
