WAYNE A. VAN MEETEREN
Wayne Arlen Van Meeteren, the son of Clarence and Delia (Van Bruggen) Van Meeteren was born January 2, 1939 on a farm northeast of Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education in rural Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1956. After graduating from high school he started farming with his father. On December 27, 1963, he was united in marriage to Lois Funk in Sibley, Iowa. The young couple made their home on a farm northeast of Sheldon for 2 years, before moving to the family farm in 1965, where Wayne and Lois farmed for 40 years. In 2007, they moved into Sheldon. Wayne passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009 at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, reaching the age of 70 years, 10 months and 7 days.
Wayne was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday school and catechism. He was also a member of Farm Bureau and a Trustee for Floyd Township. Farming was Wayne’s life, love and his hobby.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 years, Lois of Sheldon; and their three children, Susan and her husband, Beaumont Brush of Hudsonville, Michigan; Brian and his wife, Jill Van Meeteren of Sheldon; Dawn and her husband, Matt DeYoung of Lakewood, California; seven grandchildren, Isaac and Chloe Brush; Emma, Hannah and Brady Van Meeteren; Emily and Joseph DeYoung; two sisters and their spouses, Marlene and Mark Goesch of Sioux Center; Doris “Dolly” and Allen Jiskoot of Newkirk; two sisters-in-law, Linda Van Meeteren of Sheldon and Ellen and her husband, Ray Schram of Sibley and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Carol Ann Van Meeteren; and a brother, David Van Meeteren.
