WALTER LAMMERS
Walter Lammers, the son of William and Johanna Marie (Mienen) Lammers, was born October 23, 1928 on a farm near Ruble, Iowa. Walt moved with his parents to the Everly, Iowa area as a child and there he attended the Lone Tree Country School, the family moved again to the Hartley area just when Walt was going into high school, Walt graduated from Hartley Community High School in 1946. After high School Walt enlisted into the United States Army Air Corp in 1946 serving in the 11th Division Airborne until his discharge in 1948. After the service Walt lived and worked in an aluminum factory for a year. He then moved to Freeman, South Dakota and worked as a truck driver for Parklane Feed Company. Walt eventually moved back to Hartley and worked at a DX gas station. He was united in marriage to Ardith Ihry on July 2, 1950 in Everly, Iowa. The couple made their home in Everly, where Walt worked for his father-in-law as a contractor; he then worked at Harms Implement as the parts man for 12 years. He designed and built the Honey Bee Tractor-Loader manufactured in Everly, Iowa. In 1975, they moved to Boyden where he worked for DEMCO Manufacturing until his retirement in 2002. Ardith preceded him in death on October 26, 2013; Walt remained in Boyden until moving to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon, Iowa and then later to Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa where he passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 reaching the age of 87 years and 20 days.
He was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Boyden an Elder and of the Adult Bible Study; the Boyden William Munster Post #272 of the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, all around general tinkering and making his homemade sausage and Peppermint Schnapps.
Walt leaves to cherish his memory his 3 sons and their spouses, Tony (Denise) Lammers of Custer, SD; Tracy (Kayleen) Lammers of Sioux Falls, SD and Tim (Vicki) Lammers of Boyden, IA; 7 grandchildren, Tori (Cory) Lewis, Jessica Krebs; Cody (Jamie) Lammers, Tara (Ross) Miller; Justin (Katie) Lammers, Mariah and Philip Lammers; 8 great-grandchildren, Ashlynn, Megan, Landon, Michael, Delany, Kyler, Alaina and Klaridy; a sister-in-law, Joyce Wagner of Spencer, IA; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ardith; his parents, a brother, Bill; and two sisters, Marian and Irma.
