VIRGIL L. WARNKE
Virgil Leroy Warnke, the son of Delbert and Gladys (Howe) Warnke was born September 5, 1932 in Paullina, Iowa. The family lived in the Paullina area until Virgil was 11 years old and they moved to Sanborn where he received his education. He served in the Army from March of 1953 until being discharged in March of 1955, attaining the rank of Corporal. On January 4, 1956, he was united in marriage to Shirley Sanem in Blue Earth, Minnesota. The couple lived four years in California before moving to Sheldon. While in Sheldon, Virgil worked at AGP in the maintenance department for twenty and a half years before retiring in 1994. His retirement years were spent in Sheldon. He passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2011 at the Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota reaching the age of 78 years, 6 months and 19 days.
He was a member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sheldon. He enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling and being outdoors.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Shirley of Sheldon; two sons, Darrel Warnke and his special friend, Lorri LePaige of Archer, Iowa and Donald Warnke of Baltic, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, four sisters, Delores Smith of Sacramento, California; Dorothy and her husband, Bob Boneschans of Melvin, Iowa; Ruth Palmer of Lincoln, Nebraska and Linda Bjerkness of Valley Center, California; sister and brother-in-law, Judy and John Verdoorn of Brandon, South Dakota; a brother-in-law, Doug Seivert of Sheldon, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Warnke; his parents, two brothers, Robert and Ronald; two sisters, Wanabelle Meheman and Marlys Schimmer.
