Visitation will be Tuesday, March 13, 2012 after 4:00pm with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00pm at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon. A Scripture Wake Service will be at 7:00pm and a Rosary lead by the Sheldon Knights of Columbus will be at 7:30pm on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

VERNON L. ROZEBOOM
Vernon Lee Rozeboom, the son of Lammert J. and Edith (Sorgdrager) Rozeboom, was born December 9, 1938 in Alton, Iowa. He attended school in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1957. Vern served for 8 years in the Iowa National Guard, being honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant, he was known to be an expert marksman. On February 28, 1959, he was united in marriage to Beverly Schwarz in Sheldon, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm south of Sheldon, near Vern’s folks, where he enjoyed helping his dad farm. In 1963, they moved into Sheldon. Vern and Bev bought a farm east of Sheldon in 1972, where he farmed until his retirement. Vern also worked for the Big “4”, later known as Land-O-Lakes and AGP for 23 years as a truck mechanic and retired as the shop foreman. He was known for his ability to fix anything. Vern also operated the Prairie Queen Distributing for several years and for 5 years he operated the dredge for the Floyd Valley Sand Gravel. He passed away on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon reaching the age of 73 years, 3 months and 2 days.
Vern was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Sheldon, where he was a Saturday night usher and was the Sexton of St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery for many years. He was an active member of the Sheldon Knights of Columbus, and was on the NCC Board of Directors for the Truck and Diesel Program. Vern enjoyed his yearly fishing trips to Canada, family gatherings, morning coffee with his many friends. He also enjoyed helping his son out at Art’s Repair. Anytime someone had a project that they needed help with or needed something fixed, Vern was there and he could fix it.
Vern is survived by his wife, Bev of 53 years; and their five children, Bill Rozeboom and his fiancé, Angel Maae of Sheldon; Theresa and her husband, Ed Vondrak of Hinton, Iowa; Dan and his wife, Janna Rozeboom; Dee Houtsma and Tim Rozeboom all of Sheldon; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Daryl and Barb Rozeboom of Sheldon; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lammert on July 29, 2009 and his mother, Edith on February 16, 2012.
