VELDA J. FAUST

Velda J. Faust was born April 6, 1938 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Howard and Viola (Jurgensen) Maffin. The family moved to Cherokee, Iowa in the early 1940’s where Velda received her education and graduated from Washington High School in 1956. On June 8, 1956, she was united in marriage to Burdette Faust at the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee. They resided in the Calumet and Paullina area throughout their married life. She worked alongside her husband as owners of Burt’s Farm Service in Calumet and eventually on their farm. They spent many wonderful years together raising their family and farming. Velda passed away on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at her residence in Paullina, reaching the age of 75 years, 6 months and 14 days.
The most important thing in her life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved attending the countless events in the lives of her children and grandchildren. There were always lots of hugs, laughter, stories and advice. She left them with an abundance of wonderful memories.
Velda enjoyed garage sales, auctions, casinos and camping. She loved traveling across the U.S. to meet old friends and make new ones. The RV trip to Alaska was an exceptional experience. She loved playing cards and board games with her friends and family. She was always there to lend a helping hand, putting others before herself. You could often find her tooling about the farm, helping with projects or bringing lunch to the field. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors are her husband of 57 years, Burt; their children, Tammy (Steve) Blazek of Lee’s Summit, MO; Lisa (Marty) Rahbusch of Calumet; Todd (Sonja) Faust of Calumet; David (Taunia) Faust of Calumet and Stacy (Odell) Greene of Stafford, VA; 16 grandchildren, Amanda, Cortney Blazek, Beau, Brittany (Sean) Wetrich, Halee Rahbusch, Alexandra, Isaiah, Amelia, Isabelle Faust, Ethan, Tavian, Sophia Faust, Tenay, Kiara and Ayana Greene; 3 great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Baylea and Karson; brothers, Gary (Charlotte) Maffin of Buhl, ID; Mike (Cynthia) of Spirit Lake, IA and Bob Maffin of Washington, DC; one sister, Doris (Charles) Carlson of Cherokee, IA; sisters-in-law, Marilyn Maffin of Earlham, IA; Dorothy (Chuck) Weeks of Spirit Lake, IA; brothers-in-law, Bob (Nadine) Faust of Paullina and Bill (Jan) Faust of Charles City, IA; also many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by granddaughter, Emilee Faust; her parents, stepfather, two brothers, Rodney and his wife, Margaret and Charlie Maffin.
