RUTH TEN CLAY
Ruth Ten Clay, the daughter of James and Dena (Guerink) Den Hartog, was born November 1, 1922 near Alton, Iowa. She was raised on the farm and received her education at a country school southeast of Sheldon. On August 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Charles Ten Clay in Sheldon, Iowa. They lived in Litchville, North Dakota for twelve years and then moved to Sheldon, Iowa. Charles preceded her in death on March 9, 2006. Ruth was a homemaker and treasured spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed crocheting. Her grandchildren will always remember grandmas delicious peanut butter bars, her Christmas cookies, and the fun they had playing games with her.
Ruth showed her love for the Lord in many ways. She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sheldon. She taught Sunday school, catechism, Bible school and was involved in womens Bible studies. Ruth enjoyed volunteering at Sanford Senior Care.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Eileen and her husband, Ken Denekas of Inwood, Iowa; Merlyn Ten Clay and his wife, Rhonda of Wichita, Kansas; and Dennis Ten Clay and his wife, Deb of Sheldon, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Emily Huisman and her husband, Shawn (Annika and Wyatt), Brian Denekas and his wife, Gwen (Carson, Collin and Ceagan), Laura Blancett and her husband, Travis, Maria Scherer and her husband, Justin, David Ten Clay and his wife, Laura (Joshua and Hannah), Daniel Ten Clay and his wife, JoElyn (Lydia), and Michael Ten Clay and his wife, Megan; three brothers, Robert Den Hartog and his wife, Berdie, Elmer Den Hartog, and Eugene Den Hartog all of Sheldon, two sisters, Edna Dykstra of Sheldon, Iowa and Arlene Ver Mulm of Sanborn, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Alice Den Hartog of Sheldon, Iowa; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her grandson, Nathan Ten Clay, a brother, Willard Den Hartog and sisters, Florence Dykstra and Marian Haack.
