ROY A. HOPPE
Roy Albert Hoppe, the son of Leo and Anna (Bower) Hoppe was born May 25, 1929, in Leavenworth, Kansas. When he was 13 years old, his parents moved to a farm in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Roy loved growing up on the farm with his brothers and parents. Later, Roy was in the United States Air Force where he worked as an Automotive Mechanic and also Jet Engine Mechanic. He received the rank of Staff Sgt. while serving during the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his discharge on November 3, 1960.
On January 15, 1955, he was united in marriage to Lucille Mlodozyniec in Duluth, Minnesota where he was stationed. Roy and Lucille traveled to several states while he served in the Air Force. After he was discharged from the service, the couple lived in Minnesota while raising their four children. In 1974, they moved to Sheldon where Roy was an Automotive Instructor at Northwest Iowa Community College for 10 years. Then, they moved to Decorah, Iowa where Roy taught Auto Mechanics at Calmar Community College until his retirement in 1994. Then, they moved back to Sheldon after Roys retirement to live closer to their children and grandchildren.
The most important thing in Roys life was his faith, family and friends. Having a personal relationship with the Lord was something that Roy was passionate about and shared with others often. Family get-togethers with his children were always a highlight for Roy, and the many vacations spent together while his children were young. Roy loved spending time with his family and all of his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, tinkering in his garage working on cars, watching his children and grandchildren at all of their sporting events, going to air shows, and playing cards with family and friends. He also loved working on the farm and always had a huge garden so he could share it with others. The biggest smiles always came when his children came over and his grandchildren. After Roys stroke in 2007, his drawing became a big part of his life as he spent hours drawing cars and planes.
Roy met his Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 9, 2017, at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon reaching the age of 87 years nine months and fourteen days. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, the Sheldon Kiwanis and the American Legion Post # 145 of Sheldon.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Lucille of 62 years, of Sheldon, Iowa; four children, Deb (Terry) Jaycox of Sanborn, Iowa; Steve (Rhonda) Hoppe of Monticello, Minnesota; Kathy (Glen) Goedken of Sheldon, Iowa and Rick (Nancy) Hoppe of Loomis, California; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren also nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Anna Hoppe and two brothers, Bert Hoppe and Clarence Hoppe.
Because your Love is better
Than life, my Lips will glorify you.
Psalm 63:3
For by grace are you saved through faith;
and that not of yourselves:
it is the gift of God:
Not of works,
lest any man should boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9
