ROGER D. BIRCHARD

Roger Dean Birchard, the son of Benton Cecil and Alice Josephine (Backstrom) Birchard, was born July 2, 1945 in Gillett Grove, Iowa. He attended school at South Clay graduating from South Clay High School in 1964. On December 5, 1964, he was united in marriage to Karen Sue Moffitt in Greenville, Iowa. He began his employment with Spencer Foods in Spencer, Iowa. The couple co-owned Orchid Cleaners in Storm Lake with his son and daughter-in-law, Benton and Brenda Birchard. The couple later lived in Ida Grove, Iowa before moving to Paullina in 2000. He passed away on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, reaching the age of 62 years, 10 months and 19 days.
Survivors include his wife, Karen of Paullina; his special dog, Lucille; two sons, Benton and his wife, Brenda Birchard of Manson, IA and Jeffrey and his wife, Michelle Birchard of Rochester, MN; four grandchildren, Austin and Avery Birchard and Justin and Alexandra Streiff and one great-grandson, Teaghun Birchard; also one brother, Earl and his wife, Wanda Birchard of Spencer, IA; two sisters, Blanche Foxhoven of Estherville, IA and Shirley and her husband, Bob Stone of Richmond, TX; special friends, Rich and Judy Adams and Rich and Harriett Berger; also other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harold, Elmer and Cecil Birchard; five sisters, Betty Plautz, Alice Birchard, Wanda Mills, Marlene Anderson and Loraine Birchard in infancy.
