ROBERT DALE CRAUN

Robert Dale Craun, the son of Charles and Martha (McCauley) Craun, was born November 8, 1916 in Ocheyedan, Iowa. He moved to Primghar with his parents and received his education in Primghar schools, graduating from Primghar High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II. On June 21, 1948, he was united in marriage to Barbara Hook in Wayne, Nebraska. He was employed for 46 years in the O’Brien County Engineers Office in Primghar. His retirement years were spent in Primghar, where he was very active in the Primghar community. He had made his home at the Primghar Care Center the last couple of years. He passed away at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital on October 16, 2006, reaching the age of 89 years, 11 months and 8 days.
He was a member of the United Church of Primghar, was a 50 year member of the Rising Star Masonic Lodge and was the secretary for over 40 years, and also a member of the Sioux City Consistory and Abu Bekr Shrine Temple. He served as the secretary for over 40 years for the Primghar Chamber of Commerce. He was a former member of the Primghar Country Club; serving on the first board. Dale also was a member of the Primghar Betterment Council and the Chateau-Thierry Post #36 of the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, flying and golf.
Dale is survived by his wife, Barbara of Primghar; two daughters, Carol McGuire of San Antonio, Texas; Mary Ann and her husband, Dan Gute of Guthrie Center, Iowa; a son, Jim and his wife, Sue Craun of Malvern, Iowa; four grandchildren, Shaun, Molly and Kevin McGuire and Robert Dale Craun; three step-grandchildren, J.J. and his wife, Kellie Tuller; Michelle and her husband, Tim Poppa and Scott and his wife, Connie Tuller; six step great-grandchildren; Jake, Nathan, Nicholas, Page, Robert and Colin; a brother and his wife, Gerald and Doris Craun of Spirit Lake, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Lee and his parents.
