ROBERT BOB B. BONATH
Robert Burdette Bonath the son of Elmer and Lois (Emery) Bonath was born August 20, 1927 in Primghar, Iowa. In 1933 the family moved to the Archer area where he attended country school and later in Archer to the fourth grade. In 1937 they moved back to Primghar and he graduated in 1945 from Primghar High School where he was active in basketball, vocal music and class plays. He was called in to the Army in 1950 serving during the Korean Conflict and discharged in 1952. He attended Yankton College graduating in 1956 with a BA degree. While in college he met Mary Blow and the couple were married in 1953. He worked at various jobs teaching school, managing super markets and also furthered his education at the University of Iowa and the University of South Dakota. The couple returned to Iowa where he worked for the State of Iowa with vocational rehabilitation for twenty-five years. He worked in Charles City, Mason City, Waterloo and Le Mars. The couple moved to Primghar in 1976 and Bob worked at Cherokee Mental Health retiring in 1989. The couple remained in Primghar until moving to the Manor at Prairie View Campus in Sanborn to make their home. Bob passed away on Thursday March 16, 2017 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar reaching the age of 89 years, 6 months and 26 days.
He was a member of the United Church of Primghar where he served on various boards, American Legion, Baum-Harmon Hospital Board, and Primghar Housing Board. He was a Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeye fan. His family was very important to Bob his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Bonath of Sanborn; children, Dee (Tom) Ream of West Bend, Wisconsin; Steve (LaNora) Bonath of Garland, Texas; Dennis (Stephanie) Bonath of West Des Moines, Iowa; Lynn Nickelson and Karen (Rick) Ginger of Primghar, Iowa; five grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Crass, Alison Propson and Bradley Rusch, Neal (Kari) Ginger, Kelli (Martin) Lambertus, Justin Bonath; four great grandchildren, one sister, Irene Painter of Sanborn; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Arthur Bonath and a son-in-law, Malcolm Nick Nickelson.
