REV. RIALTO S. ROESLER
Rialto S. Roesler was born July 23, 1917 on a farm near Bellevue, Iowa, the son of John Roesler and Alice Schoop Roesler. On August 12, 1917, he was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in St. Donatus. Rialto was confirmed on October 11, 1931 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Kimball. He received his elementary education in rural schools near Zwingle, Iowa and his junior high and high school education at Kimball, South Dakota. Following his graduation from Kimball High School in 1934, he attended Wartburg College in Clinton, Iowa for one year. In the summer of 1935, he enlisted in the Civilian Conservation Corps and worked at Fort Pierre, South Dakota for two years. The following two years were spent helping his father on the Roesler farm near Spencer, South Dakota. Rialto began two more years of study in 1939 at Wartburg College which had moved to Waverly, Iowa. He then taught for two years at St. John's Parochial School in rural Boyden, Iowa. In 1942, he was drafted into the army and served for 39 months in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator. Rialto served in the U. S., England, France and Belgium, and received his discharge in September, 1945. He completed his final two years of undergraduate study at Augustana College, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he received a B. A. in history and then earned an M. A. in history from the University of South Dakota. Rialto taught for a year at Milbank, South Dakota and then did an additional year of graduate work at the University of Nebraska. He entered Wartburg Seminary, Dubuque, Iowa in 1950 and graduated in May, 1953.
Rialto met Eleanore Yelden when he was a seminary student doing supply preaching in her home congregation at Earlville, Iowa. They were married on June 28, 1953. He was ordained into the Holy Ministry of The American Lutheran Church on July 12, 1953 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Canova, South Dakota and was installed at Christ Lutheran Church in Mott, North Dakota. Rialto's brothers, Eugene and Stanley, who were also pastors in the ALC, participated in these services. Following four years of service in Mott (1953-1957), he served churches in Carrington, North Dakota (1957-1966), Hosmer, South Dakota (1966-1975) and Colman, South Dakota (1975-1982). Rialto accepted a call to Paullina in 1982, serving Siloam Lutheran Church for ten years as a semi-retired pastor. After retiring he was an interim and supply pastor to several churches in northwest Iowa. In all of his pastorates, Rev. Roesler is remembered as a faithful and diligent preacher and teacher. He was well-liked as a pastor and when he was recently asked what he enjoyed most about being a pastor, he said, "the people." In each of the communities in which he lived, he participated in service clubs - Lions, Kiwanis, and the American Legion. He enjoyed bowling, golfing and watching sports on television.
Rialto and Eleanore moved to Prairie View Campus in Sanborn, Iowa in November, 2010. Eleanore passed away December 30, 2011 and Rialto passed away February 7, 2012.
Rialto is survived by his brother, Paul Roesler and his wife, Donna; a step-sister, Agatha Gagnon and her husband, Kenneth; sisters-in-law, Lola Roesler, Nancy Roesler and Eleanor Roesler; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rialto was preceded in death by his wife, parents, step-mother, sister, and seven brothers.
