He furthered his education at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, graduating in 1954. On September 26, 1954 he was united in marriage to the love of his life Opal L. Scheel in Sterling, Colorado. During his college breaks, he followed his father’s footsteps and worked for the CB&Q Railroad and the Burlington Northern Railway. When Dave felt the calling to become a minister, he continued his undergraduate at Westmar College in LeMars, IA, graduating in 1958 and then went on to the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Naperville, Illinois. In 1998, the couple moved to Paullina, IA for their retirement years. Even after retirement he continued serving as interim and guest minister at parishes in and around the Paullina community.
