PATTY S. BETHEL

Patty Suzanne Bethel, the daughter of Harold and Thelma (Omer) Grafton was born and raised in Sanborn, Iowa. She graduated from Sanborn High School. Patty was married to Leland Billings and to this union three children were born. Early in her adult life she moved to Primghar where she lived the remainder of her life. She was married to Rich Bethel and to this union two children were born. Patty was very strong and courageous at times working several jobs to support and raise her children. Her children were her life.
Through the years she worked a variety of jobs including being a nurse's aide, cook and a reporter for the O’Brien County Bell Newspaper. For many years she ran Rich’s Café in Primghar where there were no strangers and everyone was a friend.
She passed away unexpectedly Friday, April 11, 2008 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.
Patty is survived by her children, Kim (Billings) and her husband, Paul van Driesten of Knoxville, Iowa; Mike Billings and Tami of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Lori (Bethel) and her husband, Mike Marshall of Knoxville, Iowa and Sheri Bethel of Primghar; also fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, three sisters and one brother, Marilyn and her husband, Jim Cardin of Ashton, Iowa; Omer and his wife, Betty Grafton of Moville, Iowa; Kathy and her husband, Ted Hemmig of San Jose, California and Dorothy and her husband, Rodney Kroese of Ellsworth, Minnesota; a special friend, Cheryl Wilbur of Primghar; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara (Billings) Robinson; two children in infancy and her parents.
