OLIVE G. DOORENBOS
Olive G. Doorenbos, the daughter of Frank and Effie (Horn) Schafer, was born June 5, 1917 in Spirit Lake, Iowa. As a child she moved with her parents to various locations, she did receive her elementary education in Middleburg, IA and graduated from the High School in Boyden, IA in 1934. Olive was united in marriage to Theodore Doorenbos on February 17, 1937 in rural Boyden, IA. After their marriage the couple farmed near Boyden until Ted’s retirement in 1978 when they moved to a different farm house near Boyden. Her husband, Ted preceded her in death on December 6, 2001. Olive remained in her home until passing away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center of Sheldon, Iowa on Tuesday, October 15, 2013 reaching the age of 96 years, 4 months and 10 days.
She was a member of United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. She and Ted enjoyed traveling and were able to visit all of the 50 States. She enjoyed reading, various handcrafts especially crocheting and quilting. She created many beautiful doilies, table clothes and quilts that she shared with family and friends. She also enjoyed her flower gardens; the Irises being her favorites. She loved her children and grandchildren and looked forward to family get-togethers on Sunday afternoons and holidays.
Olive is survived by her 10 children, Donna and her husband, Lavern Meyer of Boyden, IA; Darlene and her husband, Ray De Vilbiss of Palmer, AK; Leland and his wife, Ella Doorenbos of Boyden, IA; Arlen and his wife, Linda Doorenbos of Boyden, IA; Carolyn Doorenbos of Boyden, IA; Sharon Hollatz of Garner, IA; Elwin and his wife, Lisa Doorenbos of Boyden, IA; Kenneth and his wife, Sue Doorenbos of Spirit Lake, IA; Dwight and his wife, Nancy Doorenbos of Boyden, IA; Linda and her husband, Rick Korthals of George, IA; 23 grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted; an infant daughter, 2 great-grandchildren, a son-in-law, Gary Hollatz; her parents, 1 brother and 2 sisters.
