MILO “MIKE” G. SCHOENING
Milo “Mike” George Schoening was born December 12, 1916 to Anna (Horstmann) and Henry Schoening in Primghar, Iowa. He was raised and attended country schools near Sutherland and Primghar, Iowa.
He began his plumbing career in Primghar for Cassidy Hardware. Mike served with distinction in the infantry as a Sergeant in World War II with the 11th Armored Division in Europe. During a leave of duty, he returned to Primghar and married Dorothy Hoeven on February 14, 1945.
In 1953, Mike launched his own plumbing business with his brother, Orville Schoening and was later joined by Julius Koel. He retired at the age of 70.
Mike was an avid hunter, loved ballroom dancing, golfing, walking and the outdoors. He was a member of the United Church of Primghar, the American Legion and the 11th Armored Division Association. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Mike passed away on December 24, 2005 in his home in Primghar, Iowa, reaching the age of 89 years and 12 days.
Mike leaves to cherish his memory, three daughters and their husbands, Jean and Tim Ebel of Primghar, Iowa; Susan and Gary Smith of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; and Laurie and Mark Kurth of Davis, California. He has eight grandchildren, Andrea (Ebel) Fink and her husband, Jason Fink; Chris, Steve and Alison Smith; Jennifer, Daniel, Thomas and Jeffrey Kurth; two great-grandchildren, Mckoy and Ayden Fink. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Schoening of Kingman, Arizona; a sister, Mary Ann Sauer and her husband, John of Cherokee, Iowa; two sisters-in-law; Florence Schoening of Primghar, Iowa and Esther Bacan of Orange City, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his parents, three brothers, Glenn, Orville and Merlyn; and a sister, LaVonne Cochran.
