MELVIN H. MOLMEN


Melvin Harvey Molmen, the son Ole and Laura (Swaboda) Molmen, was born November 7, 1914 in St. Paul, Minnesota. He moved with his parents to Sheldon, Iowa in 1920. He attended school in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1933, he also graduated from the International School of Engineering in Los Angeles, California. He was united in marriage to Lela Vander Hamm on July 17, 1939 in Okoboji, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in Los Angeles and Venice, California, where he worked in research for Douglas Aircraft. In 1944, they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he worked in the Aero-Pilot Shop of Minneapolis Honeywell. In 1947, they moved to Sheldon and he joined his father as a partner in Molmen Dairy. After selling to Wells Blue Bunny, they moved back to Minneapolis, where he worked at the Parten Machinery Company, before retiring in 1979. They moved back to Sheldon in 1998 and into Fieldcrest in 2003. Melvin passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2006, at the Northwest Iowa Health Center of Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 91 years, 9 months and 2 days.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Sheldon. He enjoyed traveling, especially camping, playing cards, fishing, reading, hiking, cross-word puzzles and photography.
Melvin leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 67 years, Lela of Sheldon; and their daughter, Carol Winter and her husband, Ernest of Boyden, Iowa; three granddaughters and their spouses, Jeanette and Todd Nance of Milford, Iowa; Brenda and Raymond Zenk of LeMars, Iowa; Bev and Jack Rolfes of Orange City, Iowa; six great-grandchildren, Wade Summers; Lindsey Lux; Alyssa, Nicole and Austin Rolfes; and Chad Zenk; a brother and his wife, Clarence and Hazel Molmen of Denton, Texas; three sisters, Elaine and her husband, John Bancroft of Yucaipa, California; Shirley and her husband Carl Hammer of Missouri; Jean Poore of St. Paul, Minneapolis; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
