Graveside services for Mary J. Archer, age 88 of Houston, Texas, whose husband was from the Archer, Iowa area, passed away on February 3, 2011 at her home in Houston. Her services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar with the Rev. Doris Lindley officiating; the Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home of Primghar is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Jean Neal Archer, was born January 14, 1923 in White County, Arkansas. While working as a battalion secretary at the Great Lakes Naval Training Station, during W.W. II, Mary met and married Naval Officer Guerdon W. Archer. Guerdon W. Archer, was the youngest of nine children of John Holmes Archer of O’Brien County, Iowa. Making their home in Houston, Texas, Mary and Guerdon spent most of their summers at their cottage on West Okoboji with their many friends and relatives in northwest, Iowa. Mary passed away on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at her home in Houston surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her son, Guerdon W. Archer Jr. and his wife, Susan; her daughter, Katy Thorstenberg, three grandchildren, Annette, Catherine and Russell; and her sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Don Carlos; also other relatives and friends.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Guerdon W. Archer on August 27, 1987 and her son, Franklin Neal Archer on February 10, 1989.
