MARIAN G. MAU
Marian Mau, 85, of Paullina, Iowa passed away peacefully in her home Friday, August 10, 2018. Marian was born September 21, 1932. She was the daughter of Gilbert and Genevieve Hollister. She attended Buena Vista College from 1950-1951 in pursuit of her teaching degree. She married Walter “Jack” Mau on June 22, 1952 at the Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. They lived in Wall Lake, Shenandoah, Early, and Storm Lake before moving to Paullina in 1957. They purchased and ran the Paullina Greenhouse from 1957-1970. Marian then received her dream job as the librarian for the Paullina Public Library and worked there until her retirement.
She is survived by a son, Sam and Melissa of Ash Grove, Missouri; son, Tim and Anne of Granger, Iowa; daughter, Laura of Des Moines, Iowa; niece, Michelle and Craig of Tea, South Dakota; nephew, Mark and Erin of West Des Moines, Iowa; 10 wonderful grandchildren, Shawn, MaryLaura, Dillon, Sarah, Ian, Sidney, Cade, Carly, Hilary, and Ellie; 2 sweet great-grandchildren, Blake and Willow. Also surviving her are a sister, Lois (Sidney) Hoover, and a brother, Bob (Darby) Hollister. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack in 2009, her sister, Barbara and brother, Jim.
Marian was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Paullina, and a member of PEO. She was always proud of her children and their families, and especially loved being a grandmother. Through the years she loved reading, bowling, reading, sewing, reading, cooking, reading. Did we mention reading? Over her lifetime we can only guess the number of books she read; but they would surely fill a library. Marian will be remembered for her strength, care and concern of friends and neighbors, and her love of family.
