Services for Margil K. Peters, age 92, of Sheldon who passed away on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Vista Prairie at Fieldcrest in Sheldon. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 28, 2021, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon with Rev. Daniel Baker ~ officiating.
Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Visitation with family present will be after 12:30 P.M. until service time on Monday, June 28, 2021, at the church.
Arrangements are under the care of the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon.

Margil K. Peters passed away on Thursday, June 17th, 2021, at Vista Prairie at Fieldcrest in Sheldon, Iowa.
Margil was born in Britton South Dakota on March 18th, 1929, to Edward and Flora (Frey) Riecks. She moved to Melvin Iowa as a small child where she graduated from high school in 1947. She worked as a telephone operator in Sibley Iowa after graduating. Starting when her children were in high school, she worked part time in the children’s department at Mr. Bs. She loved helping young parents outfit their children.
She met Robert Peters on New Year’s Eve, 1951 at the Cedar Cabin in Ashton, Iowa. They were married on November 9th, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Sheldon, Iowa. Bob passed away on October 8, 1980.
She lived a selfless life constantly reaching out to friends and family. Margil crocheted afghan blankets for countless friends, family and new babies. She was known as the “card lady”, frequently sending cards to many, even people she did not know to let them know she was thinking of them. She delighted in receiving cards from others, too. She volunteered at her church, Saint Paul Lutheran church and Oak Park Nursing Home until she was well into her 80’s. She was a lifelong Lutheran. Margil was known as “second mom” by many of her children’s friends. She loved to bake and was known for her famous caramel bars. Margil also loved crossword puzzles, reading books and traveling. One of her favorite pastimes was playing bridge with the same group of women for over 60 years. Margil loved to spend time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Margil is survived by her daughter Cyndi Merrill (Lloyd Olson) Sioux Falls, South Dakota, two sons Brian Peters, Cedar Falls, Iowa and Kevin Peters (Serena) Grimes, Iowa; four grandchildren, Melissa Nesdahl (Charlie), Grant Merrill, McKenzie Peters, and Tori Peters; three great grandchildren, Grace, Hannah and Ava Nesdahl.
Margil was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her infant daughter Betty, and her parents. Visitation with family present will be at 12:30 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon on Monday, June 28th, 2021. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Reverend Daniel Baker officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.
Arrangements are under the care of Vander Ploeg funeral home in Sheldon.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Sheldon Public Library Foundation, 925 Fourth Avenue, Sheldon, Iowa, 51201. Memo on the donation should refer to Margil Peters memorial.
