Marcia K. Bolkema the daughter of Ervin and Gladys (Holtrop) Bolkema was born on November 20, 1965 in Sheldon, Iowa and passed away on Easter Sunday April 4, 2021 at Sanford Hospital in Sheldon, Iowa reaching the age of 55 years 4 months and 14 days. What a glorious Easter celebration Marcia experienced as she entered her eternal home.
When Marcia was just two-and one-half years old, her parents began putting Marcia through an intensive series of exercises called Dolman Delacotto pattern programming. The therapy was a full-time job, made possible with the help of 80 volunteers who came to the family home in shifts to help. Marcia progressed steadily at that time, but the full-time exercising had to be given up when she began school. Marcia attended Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa.
Marcia moved out of her parent’s home to Village Northwest Unlimited in the summer of 1985. She came home Sundays for church and lunch. She was a great eater and enjoyed her “dessert” of butter and rolls at the end of every meal. Marcia loved VNU home. She enjoyed the activities at the Village. She would “show off” her home when the family came to visit at the Village’s annual Independence Day celebration.
Marcia had a tender heart and was happy when others were happy and sad when others were sad. Marcia had an easy smile and was a blessing to those who knew her.
Marcia will be missed by her Village Family and her family survivors; mother, Gladys Bolkema of Sheldon, Iowa; siblings Brenda (Randy) Van Kley of Spencer, Iowa; Ed (Jody) Bolkema of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nephews and nieces, Chris Bolkema, Jen (Adam) Brown, Mitch (Kensi) Bolkema and Sara (Kaleb) Heckstein; five great nephews and nieces, Grayson Bolkema, Kate Brown, Liam Bolkema, Greta Brown and Sawyer Heckstein.
Marcia was preceded in death by her dad, Ervin Bolkema and a sister Gayla Bolkema.
