LOUETTE M. GNADE

Louette Marie (Behnke) Gnade 93, of Paullina passed away November 22, 2014 at the Prairie View Retirement Home, Sanborn, Iowa. Louette was born on June 25, 1921, grew up in Hawthorne, N.J., the daughter of Grace (Struck) and Louis Behnke. She was a graduate of Hawthorne High School in 1939 and the Colombia School of Commerce in N.Y.C. Her first employment was in New York City where she worked for the Belding Hemingway Co. Louette married Bert Gnade on February 14, 1942. While Bert served in the Navy, Louette was actively involved in doing radio commercials to promote war bonds. She was a homemaker, hostess in the VFW, family bookkeeper and also worked alongside Bert in their Donut Shop in Hawthorne, N.J. Louette was active in many civic organizations, including PTA President, scout den leader, Hawthorne Fire Co #1 Auxiliary and church affiliations: Rea Avenue Reformed, Brick Osbornville Baptist and Paullina First Presbyterian. Bert and Louette lived in North Jersey and then moved to the Jersey Shore in 1967. Throughout Louettes career she worked as a medical secretary bookkeeper and office manager. She worked for Brielle Orthopedics, Brick, N.J. for 20 years retiring in 1985.
Louette loved to travel, traveling to all 50 states in addition to many cruses, family trips and day trips to New York City. She loved to treat her family to trips to Disney World. She was an excellent cook, planner and hostess. She was a gift giver, card sender and letter writer. She had a sweet tooth, loved candy, hid candy, gave candy and ate candy! She loved roller coasters, riding the Arnolds Park Roller Coaster twice on her 87th birthday. Louette and Bert lived on Barnegat Bay, Brick, N.J. and loved to crab with their grandchildren. They later moved to Laurelton Gardens, a retirement community. They wintered in Sebastian, Florida at the Davis House Inn. In 2005, Louette and Bert purchased a home in Paullina, Iowa. Louette moved to the Sanborn Prairie View Retirement Home in January 2009. A memorable event was celebrating a 70th wedding anniversary in 2012.
Left to cherish her memory, her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Dave Platt and daughter-in-law, Jean Gnade of Paullina, Iowa; a son, Steven Gnade, of Point Pleasant, N.J.; eight grandchildren, Traci (Dave) Paulsen, John (Jamie) Platt, Joel (Theresa) Gnade, Jill Gnade (Joaquin Munoz), Jeff (Suzie) Gnade, Jana (Dustin) Wood, Steven (Anthony) Mulvey-Reyes, Nicole (Shawn) Simons; eighteen great grandchildren, Nick, Madison, McKenna, Colton, Daxton, Diana, Sarah, Josh, Zachary, Kayla, Jessica, Jacob, Lily, Bailey, Raegan, Dylan, Nicholas and Jared, sisters-in-law Elise Behnke, Dorothy VanDeWeert, Antoinette Steenstra, Elaine (Jim) Boot, Ruth Ann (Pete) Warnet and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lambertus Gnade Jr. (Bert) in 2014, a son, Jim Gnade in 2010; a granddaughter, Mary Lynn, a great-grandchild, Jesse Gnade, a brother, Jack Behnke, s,ister, Nelva Fairbrother Yoeman; sisters-in-law, Bertha Warnet, Evelyn Sanderson, Minnie Vandenberg, Trudy Gnade, Dorothy Gnade, Marie Klopman; brothers-in-law, William Gnade, Herman Gnade, John VanDeWeert, Herman Steenstra, Bill Sanderson, Henry Vandenberg and John Warnet.
