LOIS R. STEFFEN

Lois Ruth (Hill) Steffen was born November 30, 1922, to Clarence and Elsie (Martin) Hill at Sutherland, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed in the Church of Christ, and was a graduate of Sutherland High School. Lois and Loyd Steffen were married June 8, 1941. She lived in Sutherland, Peterson, Sioux Falls and Florida while Loyd served in the Army. When the couple moved to Paullina, Lois was employed by Paullina Community School, serving as secretary to five superintendents. She retired in 1986.
Lois was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Paullina. She enjoyed reading, watching TV soap operas, craft projects and most of all she enjoyed spending part of each winter with Ed and Judy in Phoenix.
In August 2009, she became a resident of Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen. There she enjoyed reading, watching TV, craft projects, and entertaining the nurses with her wit and humor. She passed away there July 8, 2013.
Lois is survived by a daughter, Jan of Cleghorn, Iowa; a son, Ed and his wife, Judy of Phoenix, Arizona; grandchildren, Jim and Savanna Steffen of San Diego, California; Beth and Dan Nelson of Norfolk, Virginia; three great grandsons, Alex, Noah and Brady Steffen; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Jim Canada and his wife, Dawn of Nevis, Minnesota.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Loyd in 1993, a sister, Lucia Canada and her husband, Milt; two brothers, Clifford Hill and his wife, Maybelle and R. J. Hill and his wife, Vera.
