LOIS MARS
Lois Mary Mars, was born December 6, 1921, on the family farm near Maurice, Iowa to George and Agnes (Pech) Osborne. She was baptized and confirmed at the Seney Methodist Church. She attended country school near her home and later graduated from LeMars Central High School. She then attended Western Union College (Westmar College) for one year and taught country school. On December 6, 1946, Lois was united in marriage to Minderd Lige Mars at the Seney Methodist Church. Following their marriage Lois and Minderd farmed around the Paullina area for 49 years. She also worked in the Baum-Harmon Hospital kitchen for a short time. Lois passed away on Wednesday June 8, 2016 at the Prairie View Retirement Home in Sanborn, Iowa reaching the age of 94 years 6 months and 2 days.
Lois was a lifetime member of the American Reformed Church in Primghar and taught Sunday School. She was a member of the Rosedale Club. Faith and family were important to her. She enjoyed camping with family and friends, reading, crossword puzzles, baking for the grandchildren, gardening and living life in the country.
Survivors include her children; Dennis (Barbara) Mars of Primghar; Phyllis (Dan) Rohlfsen of Paullina; Ruth (Gordon) Wittrock of Primghar; Barbara (Randal) Simmelink of Orange City; six grandchildren; Kevin (Jennifer) Mars of Primghar; Tracy (Shonda) Wittrock of Primghar; Tim (Sherri) Wittrock of Paullina; Terry Wittrock of Paullina; Austin Simmelink of Paullina; and Jennifer (Joshua) Van Es of Alton; nine great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Betty Osborne of Montevideo, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Minderd on March 16, 2014; parents, half sister and her husband Dolly (Ernie) Reeves; sister and her husband Jean(Lloyd) Buss and a brother Bill Osborne.
