LEONARD W. RICHTER
Leonard Wilhelm Arthur Harold Richter, the son of Paul and Mary (Ahles) Richter was born on February 26, 1926 in rural Granville, Iowa. He was baptized on March 14, 1926 and confirmed on July 6, 1941 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. He attended school at St. John Lutheran School. Leonard was united in marriage to Ardelle Westphal on November 30, 1947 at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown. After their marriage the couple farmed around Germantown until his retirement in 1998. Leonard passed away on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the Orange City Area Hospital in Orange City reaching the age of 86 years, 8 months and 20 days.
He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing, softball, old time music, ice cream and helping people out. Leonard loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Ardelle of 64 years; four children, Nancy and her husband, Darrell Clendinnen of Castle Rock, Colorado; Kathy and her husband, Ross Miller of Gaza, Iowa; Jane and her husband, Curt Zimmerman of Castle Rock, Colorado and Daniel and his wife, Sandra Richter of Paullina, Iowa; ten grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Hansen and Delores Benner; one brother, Melvin Richter; also other relatives and many friends.
Leonard is preceded in death by a son, Todd in infancy; a granddaughter, Melissa; two brothers, Luverne and Lawrence Richter; his parents and a sister-in-law, June.
