LEONARD H. NIEUWENDORP

Leonard Henry Nieuwendorp, the son of Henry and Alice (Mastbergen) Nieuwendorp, was born on November 4, 1927 in Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education in Sheldon and graduated from Sheldon High School in 1945. On September 8, 1948, he was united in marriage to Jenelda Van’t Hul in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in various areas including Little Rock, Melvin, Matlock, George and finally in the Sheldon area, where they have made their home for the past 18 years just east of town. Leonard passed away at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa, reaching the age of 80 years, 2 months and 5 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and a past member of the Little Rock, Melvin and Matlock Reformed churches. He had been an elder, a deacon, a youth leader, a Sunday school teacher and superintendent; he had sang in the choir and a quartet. Leonard had helped out at the Alpha Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and for 8 years, he and his wife went on the mission trips to Cary, Mississippi. Leonard was a real people person; his biggest joy was helping others. Leonard will be remembered as a dedicated and conscientious and farmer.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jenelda of 59 years; and their two daughters, Judy and Jane Nieuwendorp both of Eagle River, Wisconsin; a grandson, Jason Nieuwendorp; two sisters and their spouses, Joanne and Roger Sterler of Ashton, Iowa and Helen and Clarence Wolthuizen of Sheldon, Iowa; a brother, Don and his wife, Darlene Nieuwendorp of Sioux City, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by a son, Harold Leonard Nieuwendorp; his parents and a brother, Alvin.
