Leah "Jimmie" Marie Jones, age 96, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Sanford Sheldon Senior Care in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Monday, December 26, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Rev. Marvin Lindley officiating. Visitation will be Monday, December 26, prior to the funeral service, at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon, from 12:30 to 1:45 P.M. with the family present. Burial at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Sheldon Methodist Church Youth Group. Leah Marie Jimmie' Jones the daughter of Rudolf and Mary (Rhein) Helms, was born January 5, 1920, in Wauzeka, Wisconsin, where she was raised. She received her education in Wauzeka and was valedictorian of her graduating class. She attended the University of Wisconsin where she graduated with honors. Following college, she worked for General Motors. She was united in marriage to Wayne Jones of Janesville, Wisconsin, on August 1, 1940, in Cresco, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in Niagara, Wisconsin, Marshfield, Wisconsin and moved to Sheldon, Iowa, in 1948. She was a member of the Sheldon Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Her proudest and favorite time teaching was with the Brands Boys of whom she always kept in line. She worked at Arnold Motors in Sheldon and was a personal friend with E.P. Arnold for many years. She was an excellent Bridge player and taught the game at Northwest Iowa Community College for a number of years with Helen Dyke. Over the years, Jimmie enjoyed playing in card club with all her friends, volunteering at Village Northwest, participating in the Eagles Club of Sheldon and especially playing golf, participating in women's league at the Sheldon Country Club, playing in couples league with her son Tim and playing couples tournaments across the area also with her son Tim. She loved crossword puzzles, playing cards and cribbage, reading and all animals, especially her cats. In the fall of 2010, Jimmie became a resident of Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon where she died this past Thursday morning, December 22, 2016, at the age of ninety-six. Jimmie is survived by her three sons, Dr. Allen S. (Norma) Jones of Sheldon, Curtis W. Jones of Tyrone, New Mexico, and Timothy L. Jones of Sheldon; two granddaughters Starr (Justin) Montgomery of Tiffin, Iowa, and Mackenzie (Alex) Reberg of Windom, Minnesota; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Wayne. The family wishes to extend their thanks to the staff of Sanford Senior Care and Hospital. Their kind and compassionate care given to Jimmie over the years is greatly appreciated.
