LANA J. MESNER
Lana Joan Mesner, the daughter of Loren and Joan (Gabrielson) Hurtig, was born September 20, 1961 in Cherokee, Iowa. She attended Zion Lutheran School, Paullina schools and graduated from Paullina High School in 1980. She went on to attend Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon and later Iowa Lakes Community College in Estherville, Iowa. On September 15, 1984, she was united in marriage to Gary Mesner in Paullina, Iowa. After their marriage the couple lived in various communities including Paullina and the Lakes area, where Lana was employed in the nursing field. She worked for Dr. Charles Breeling in Paullina and Sutherland and later in the clinics in Spirit Lake and Milford, Iowa. She passed away on Monday, October 3, 2005 after a long courageous battle against cancer, at the Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa, reaching the age of 44 years and 13 days.
She was baptized on March 25, 1962 and later confirmed on May 17, 1976 and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, building, designing and decorating homes, traveling and spending time with her friends. She had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews and when they were living, her dogs, Peaches and Bunny.
Lana leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband, Gary of Okoboji, IA; her mother, Joan Hurtig of Paullina, IA; two brothers, Jeffrey and his wife, Kim Hurtig of Hull, IA; and Jerry Hurtig of Paullina, IA; two sisters and their husbands, Lanette and David Hesse of Eau Claire, WI; Lisa and Jeff Steffens of Paullina, IA; her father and mother-in-law, Brad and Diane Mesner of Sutherland, IA; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Loren on August 21, 2005.
