JOHN W. DOORENBOS
John William Doorenbos, the son of Jacob and Marguerite (Bomgaars) Doorenbos was born on February 23, 1931 in Middleburg, Iowa, he moved to the Boyden area with his parents as a child. He attended the Boyden Public School and graduated from the Boyden High School in 1949. He was united in marriage to Jean De Boer on January 29, 1951 in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They made their home in Boyden and John worked for the Boyden Co-op as the Propane Manager for 45 years. John also enjoyed being a Hobby Farmer working on his home place in his later years. John was preceded in by his wife, Jean on October 6, 2014 in Sheldon. John passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa reaching the age of 85 years, 11 months and 2 days.
John was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Boyden and was also an Elder. He was the Mayor of Boyden for 36 years and was on the Boyden Volunteer Fire Department for over 45 years, he was also a cub scout leader for many years. He enjoyed gardening, being a hobby farmer, collecting John Deere toy tractors, coins, guns; he also enjoyed shooting and trap shooting
John to cherish her memories is his three children, Dwayne Butch and his wife, Christine Doorenbos of Lee Summit, Missouri; Carol and her husband, Robert Boote of Hull, Iowa, and Carla and her husband, David Radley of Sioux City, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; 4 brothers and sisters, Harriet (Dick) Giancaspro of Pagosa Springs, Colorado; James (Marlene) Doorenbos of Boyden, Iowa; Shirlee Slaughter of Palm Desert, California; Marliss (Larry) DeJong of Pittsburg, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Beverly Doorenbos of Rock Rapids, Iowa; also a host of other relatives and friends.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Jean; their son, David Lynn Doorenbos; his parents, a brother, Ivan Butch: Doorenbos and a brother-in-law, Bud Slaughter.
