JOHN H. ROHDE

John Henry Elmer Rohde, the son of Henrich and Martha (Stegemann) Rohde was born October 27, 1919 on the family farm near Boyden, Iowa. He received his education in a country school in Sheridan Township. John started farming with his brother, Ken in 1953. He enjoyed running the tractor, combining and raising his sheep. Before he retired in 1986, he worked on his father’s farm. For the past year John has been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in George, Iowa. He passed away at the Sioux Center Community Hospital & Health Center in Sioux Center, Iowa on Tuesday, March 18, 2008, reaching the age of 88 years, 4 months and 20 days.
He was a lifelong member of the St. John Lutheran Church in rural Boyden where he was baptized on December 7, 1919 and later confirmed on March 25, 1934. While John lived on the Maple Side Farm in rural Boyden, he enjoyed woodworking, fixing machinery, restoring antiques, inventing new things, bowling, spending time with his nieces, nephews and his family; going to threshing bees and spending time outdoors.
John is survived by a sister, Irene Rohde of Boyden; a brother and his wife, Kenneth and Donna Rohde of Boyden; two nephews, Dewain Rohde of Boyden and Douglas Rohde of Boyden; two nieces, Faye Rohde of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Linda Rohde of Harrisburg, South Dakota; also a host of other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Marianne Rohde and a brother, Lee Roy Rohde.
