JOHN A. RENS
John Albert Rens, the son of Bert and Alice (Peters) Rens was born December 21, 1934 in Sheldon, Iowa. He received his education from Western Christian graduating in 1952. John enlisted in the United States Army on October 11, 1955 and was honorably discharged August 11, 1958. John was united in marriage to Janet Veenstra on August 1, 1960 at the Christian Reformed Church in Sanborn, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sheldon, Iowa. John worked for Dahlen Truck Company, driving truck for several years and then worked for Rosenboom Machine and Tool for 15 years, retiring in 1997. After his retirement he drove school kids for Area 4. John passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at his residence, reaching the age of 76 years, 9 months and 22 days.
John was a Charter Member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church. He enjoyed fishing, traveling to the Black Hills, long drives, spending time with his family and friends, going out to eat, football, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
John is survived by his wife Janet of 51 years; one daughter, Shelli and her husband Hank Williams; one son Jon and his wife Lori Rens; a daughter-in-law Diane Rens all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Kathryn Santema of Sheldon, Iowa, Jean and her husband Kenneth Vermeer of California; one brother Alvin and his wife Shirley Rens of Sheldon, Iowa; one brother-in-law Harry Bosma of Hospers; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
John is preceded in death by two sons; Ryan and Bruce; parents; sister Hermina Bosma; brother-in-law Bern Santema.
