JENNIE JEAN MIERAS
Jennie Jean Mieras, the daughter of Gerritt and Hattie (Vanden Berg) Van Roekel was born March 6, 1915 in Sioux Center, Iowa. She received her education in a country school in Sioux County and attended 1 year of high school in Sioux Center. After school she lived at home and cleaned homes. On September 21, 1937, she was united in marriage to Jacob A. Jack Mieras in Orange City, Iowa. They owned and operated several grocery stores and cafes in the area. Her husband preceded her in death on July 13, 1973. After his death Jean moved off the farm and into Boyden where she worked at Farmers Feed as a bookkeeper for 11 years. In 2010, she moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon, Iowa Jean passed away at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon on Sunday, March 22, 2015 reaching the age of 100 years and 16 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden She enjoyed reading, crocheting baby blankets, pot holders and Afghans, sending out cards, traveling, quilting and spending time with her family.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Brenda Vande Brake of Sheldon; three grandchildren and their spouses, Scott and Sheryl Moret of Chandler, AZ; Joel and Ronda Moret of Orange City, IA and Cody and Jennifer Moret of Brookings, SD; seven great-grandchildren, Danielle and Eric Meyer; Terrance and Mary Moret; Jesse and Emily Moret; Jaclyn and Taylor Hoekstra; Samantha Moret, Seth Moret and Ben Moret; four great-great-grandchildren, Sydney and Declan Meyer and Greyson and Raya Moret; many precious nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a son-in-law, Virgil Vande Brake; and her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Mina and Neal Kroon, Abe and Martha Van Roekel, Janette and Ben Kraayenbrink, Jo and John Klein, Alice and Art De Goei, John and Martha Van Roekel, Gerritt and Irene Van Roekel.
