JANICE F. MARS
Janice Faye Mars, the daughter of Andrew and Louisa (Van Engen) Mars was born December 18, 1949 in Ireton, Iowa. Jan attended the Christian Grade School in Ireton and graduated from West Sioux High school in Hawarden, Iowa in 1969, she went on to continue her education at Northwest Iowa Vocational School in Sheldon, Iowa. In December of 1971, Jan started working for Dr. Martin & Raleigh Zucker in Sioux City, Iowa as a Nanny and housekeeper for 28 years. After some health problems Janice move to Sheldon, Iowa and lived in the Autumn Park Apartment. Janice volunteered her time at the Village Northwest Unlimited and eventually became employed with the Village with the Foster Grandparent Program. Her clients gave her purpose and brought much enjoyment into her life. Janice passed away on Monday, January 9, 2012, reaching the age of 62 years and 21 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon. Jan enjoyed being an active participant in her church and the women’s bible study. She also enjoyed Square Dancing when she could.
Left to cherish her memory are her three sisters and their spouses, Judy and David Ellens of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Glenda and Mark Barinsky of Hawarden, Iowa and Gail and Ross Schenk of Hull, Iowa; a special friend, Tim Pyle of Sheldon, Iowa and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Andy Mars in 1977 and her mother, Louise “Mars” Kaelke in 2009.
