JAMES O. NEGUS

James O. Negus was born to Orson and Elsie (Heinze) Negus on July 14, 1928 in Buena Vista County, Iowa. He graduated from high school in Sutherland, Iowa. He joined the U.S. Army after graduation and served with the 11th Airborne Division in Japan. After his discharge, he enrolled at Iowa State University and graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was united in marriage to Jeanne L. Rohwer on June 14, 1952 in Ames, Iowa. The couple made their home in Newton, Iowa, where James was employed by the Maytag Company for over 40 years, the last several years being spent with the Maytag Company in Jackson, Tennessee before his retirement. He passed away on Friday, December 9, 2011 at the Skiff Medical Center in Newton reaching the age of 83 years, 4 months and 25 days.
He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening and the Iowa State Cyclones.
James is survived by his wife, Jeanne of Newton, Iowa; children, Susan (Dennis) Ballard of Urbandale, Iowa; Suzanne Negus of Newton, Iowa; Cynthia (Tim) Miller of Newton, Iowa and William Negus of Des Moines, Iowa; eight grandchildren: Erin Ballard, Owen Ballard, TK Kanauss, Joe Kanauss, Katie Kanauss, Alex Kanauss, Tony Miller (Tammy) and Trevor Miller; two great-grandchildren: Wexton Miller and Vauhn Miller; three sisters, Shirley Baier of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Janet Negus of Springfield, Illinois and Donna Dighton of Davenport, Iowa; four brothers, Roger Negus and Robert Negus both of Sutherland, Iowa; Merle Negus of Phoenix, Arizona and David Negus of Tilden, Nebraska; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Marjorie and Helen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Monarch Hospice in Newton, Iowa; the American Cancer Society; or Heart of the Hawkeye Council of Camp Fire in Des Moines, Iowa.
