J. Byron Foster 87 of Primghar who passed away on Monday January 6, 2020. Will be held at 3:00 P.M. Saturday March 14, 2020 at the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar; visitation with the family present will be from 1 to 3 P.M. Saturday March 14, 2020 At the Eldridge Family Funeral Home in Primghar.
Byron Foster February 10, 1932 – January 6, 2020. Born James Byron Foster on the family farm near Coffey, MO and died Monday, January 6th, 2020 in Primghar, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents Guy and Willa Mae (Pugh) Foster, sister Joanne Sneed, infant brother Lawton Pierce and infant sister Marilyn Mae, and wife of 59 years. Barbara (Thomas). He is survived by his brother Darrell (Faith) of Venice, FL and sons Mike (Annette) of Papillion, NE; Rick (Karen) of Cape Girardeau, MO; Patrick of Missouri Valley, IA; Mark (Lisa Wade) of Newton, IA; Grandchildren Chris (Katherine) Foster of Brooklyn, NY; Brian (Kristi) Foster of Kansas City, MO; Heather (Cody Cromwell) Foster of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; Tim (Calyssa) of Aiken, SC; Rachel (Patrick Skrodski) Foster of Ann Arbor, MI and great grandchildren Andi (Brian and Kristi) and Liam (Tim and Calyssa), numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and special friend Fern Rosenboom of Primghar, IA.
Byron served in the U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Coast Guard reserves before beginning his career as a high school teacher and coach in Coburg, IA in 1959 and most recently in Primghar, IA (South O’Brien) community schools from 1979 until his last cross-country track meet on Oct. 19, 2015. Byron taught Industrial Arts (Shop) throughout his career and also taught Physical Education, Driver’s Education and coached boys and girls basketball (girls 6-on-6), boys and girls track, boys and girls golf, boys baseball, girls softball and football. He also worked as an official (referee, umpire) for these sports. He enjoyed golfing and could be found on various golf courses as long as the temperature was above 50. He has been a member of the Masonic lodge for over 50 years.
