IRENE B. TEN CLAY

Irene B. Ten Clay, the 5th of 10 children born to Arie and Carrie (Buysman) Mastbergen was born January 15, 1920 in Archer, Iowa, where she received her education. Irene was united in marriage to John Raymond Ten Clay on November 25, 1938 on her parent’s farm near Archer. In 1948, they purchased their own farm, where they worked and lived until their retirement in 1976, at which time they moved into Sheldon. They moved into the Christian Retirement Home in 1998. John preceded her in death on March 29, 2001 and one year later Irene moved into the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa. She passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2006, at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, reaching the age of 86 years, 9 months and 15 days.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, she had taught Sunday school and was active in the Ladies Aid. Irene and John were members of the Gideons. She enjoyed crocheting, handwork, puzzles and traveling.
Irene leaves to cherish her memory, her three daughters and their husbands, Phyllis and Sam Peterson of Sheldon, Iowa; Mavis and Harry Hoogers of Johnston, Iowa; Marlys and John Schuh of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; twelve grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, thirteen step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandson; she is also survived by three brothers and a sister, Lambert Mastbergen of Sheldon, Iowa; Carrie and her husband, Evert Reuvers of Primghar, Iowa; Charles and his wife, Marge Mastbergen and Don and his wife, Idelle Mastbergen all of Sheldon, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Mastbergen of George, Iowa and Kathleen Mastbergen of Sheldon, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three brothers, John, Arie and Henry Mastbergen; two sisters, Jeannette Zevenbergen and Henrietta Langstraat; two sons-in-law, Burt C. Van Batavia and Wallace Dahlseng.
