GLEN PROEHL
Glen Proehl, the son of William and Hulda (Westphal) Proehl was born December 10, 1917 on the family farm southwest of Primghar, Iowa. He received his education in Archer Public school. After receiving his education he worked for various farmers in the area. On June 16, 1944, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Pauling at St. John Lutheran Church in Germantown, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple settled on a farm southeast of Archer where they farmed for many years. His wife preceded him in death on September 19, 2000 on the family farm in rural Archer. Glen remained at the family farm and never retired helping his son Mark as much as he could. He moved to the Primghar Care Center on August 6, 2012 to make his home. He passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2014 at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa reaching the age of 96 years, 7 months and 23 days.
He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar. He enjoyed family times and being able to spend his many years on the farm which he loved, polka dancing with Sylvia and playing his Concertina on rare occasions.
Left to cherish his memory are his children, Shirley (Ken) Buck of Kingman, Arizona; Glenda (Randy) Fletcher of Lennox, South Dakota; Larry (Jeanette) Proehl of Rushmore, Minnesota; Julie (Don) Klaahsen of Primghar, Iowa; Jon (Jan) Proehl of Parkston, South Dakota; Mark (Jean) Proehl of Archer, Iowa; eighteen grandchildren, twenty two great grandchildren, one sister, Ruth Durst of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Ruth Proehl of Primghar, Iowa; also other relatives and friends.
Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia; two sons in infancy, Glen Jr. and David; one great grandson, Grayson Heiberger; two brothers, Bill and Clarence; four sisters, Irena, Bernice, June and Lois.
