EVELYN “EFFIE” VER MEER
Evelyn Ver Meer, the daughter of Ryn and Evelyn (Eppinga) Fylstra was born July 23, 1914 at Middleburg, Iowa. She received her education in country schools in Sioux County. On February 26, 1937, she was united in marriage to William Ver Meer in Hull, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed for many years in the Boyden area. The couple retired from farming and moved into Sheldon in 1975. Her husband preceded her in death on March 3, 1988 in Sheldon, Iowa. Effie remained at the family home in Sheldon and moved to Orange City in 2002. She first lived at the Heritage House and later moved to Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community, where she resided until February of 2006, when she moved back to the Heritage House. She passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa on Thursday, November 9, 2006, reaching the age of 92 years, 3 months and 16 days.
She was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon.
Effie leaves to cherish her memory, a sister, Rena (Fylstra) De Boer of Milaca, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, Katie Fylstra and Ann Kruizenga; and two brothers, Sam and Orrie.

The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall
not want. He maketh me to lie
down in green pastures; He leadeth
me beside still waters. He
restoreth my soul; He leadeth me
in the paths of righteousness for
His name’s sake.
Yea, though I walk through the
valley of the shadow of death, I will
fear no evil; for Thou art with me;
Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort
me; Thou preparest a table before
me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou anointest my head with oil,
my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall
follow me all the days of my life;
and I will dwell in the house of the
Lord forever.
