ERNA D. KOOISTRA
Our loving mother and teacher was born to Henry and Dora Brockshus on April 8, 1924, and passed on April 10, 2016. Growing up on the farm near May City, Iowa she acquired the discipline and strong faith which successful farming families required. She also had a strong faith in education, teaching country school and later sixth grade; occasionally using a textbook as a firm paddle.
She married Joe Kooistra and raised a family in Sheldon. Eventually she went back to college to renew her teaching certificate. Once back into teaching, her salary helped pay tuition for her childrens college education and thankfully her children all graduated. Finally she had the courage to let her kids make their own decisions, so we could learn by our mistakes, which some of us did. The grandchildren all graduated college too, most with high honors.
Surviving is four of her five children, Ruth, Duane, Jean & Doug. She was preceded by her husband, Joe and son, Dwight. Also surviving are four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mother always considered herself A simple farm gal and realized she had made many mistakes. But, found a great deal of strength by trusting in the Lord.
