ELIZABETH HULST
Elizabeth (Van Zee) Hulst, the daughter of John and Tillie (Baartman) Van Zee, was born at Sibley, Iowa on September 30, 1912. She lived her youth and received her education in the Sanborn area.
Elizabeth was united in marriage to Jake Koele on May 5, 1931, and to this union three daughters were born. Following their marriage they farmed in the Hartley area. In 1955, they moved to Matlock, Iowa where they owned and operated the Matlock Grocery Store, and Jake was the U.S. Post Master. Jake passed away July 30, 1961. On May 17, 1968, Elizabeth married Henry Hulst of Sheldon. Henry passed away October 30, 1998. Elizabeth moved to the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon to make her home. She passed away at the Christian Retirement Home on Friday, April 18, 2008, reaching the age of 95 years, 6 months and 18 days.
She is survived by two daughters, Mary and son-in-law, Gary Clay of Ft. Collins, Colorado; Iva and son-in-law, Ron Fylstra of Lexington, Kentucky; five granddaughters, fourteen great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Anthony Van Zee of Sheldon; a cousin, Arvilla Kamstra of Sheldon; also other relatives and friends.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her first husband, Jake; and her second husband, Henry; a daughter Joyce Mohr; a son-in-law, Richard Mohr; two brothers, Henry and Pete; two sisters, Artie and Tillie; and one great-granddaughter, Katherine Ogden.
She was a member of the First Reformed Church of Sheldon.
