Eleanor Stump

Eleanor Stump, age 78, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019 at her home in Sheldon. Funeral Services will be Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Rev. Kevin Gingerich officiating. Burial at the First Baptist Church Cemetery in rural George, Iowa. Visitation will be Monday, October 21, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Family Prayer Service from 7:00 to 7: 30 P.M. all at the United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Eleanor Jean Stump was born on March 22, 1941. She was the daughter of Carl and Violet (Hofer) Houdyshell. She lived her youth in Tama, Iowa where she attended school and graduated from Tama High School in 1959. She married Gerald Stump at the United Methodist church in Tama on July 17, 1960. They divorced in 1981. Eleanor lived in Tama until 1974 when she moved to Rock Rapids, Iowa. In 1987 she moved to Sheldon, Iowa. For four summers Eleanor was the head cook for Village Creek Bible Camp. From 1982 to 1993 she was the facilitator for the Home Providers Child Nutrition program. She was the Head Start Nutrition Aide in Rock Rapids from 1976 to 1987. In Sheldon, Eleanor worked as a Food Service Technician at Village Northwest Unlimited from 1987 to 2000. She then became the night cook at the Sheldon Hospital until 2005. In 2005, Eleanor started volunteering in the Foster Grandparent Program at East Elementary. Over the years she was a Sunday School and Bible School teacher, Youth Group Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, President of the State North American Baptist Women, Church Clerk, Awana Leader, and volunteer at Village Creek Bible Camp. The camp ministry was dear to her heart since she made her decision for the Lord at camp. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sheldon where she was the Kitchen Coordinator, provided refreshments for Kids Club, and served on numerous church committees. The time she spent with her children and grandchildren were very precious to her. She was blessed from the privilege of working with children through Head Start and Foster Grandparent program. Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Cindy and Robert Schol of Sioux City, IA, Mindy and Steve Hein of Sioux City, IA, Tim and Sandi Stump of Rock Rapids, IA, Trace Stump of St. Paul, MN; six grandchildren, Dr.SabrinaTaylor (Matthew) Louisville, KY, Mitchell Hein of Ames, IA, Grant Hein of Sioux City, IA, Krista Polla (Ross) of Redwood Falls, MN, Amy Stump (fianc� Blake Lyon) of Sioux City, IA, Megan Stump of Rock Rapids, IA; one great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Polla. She was preceded in death by her parents.
