ELAINE C. HORSTMANN
Elaine Cecilia Horstmann, the daughter of Henry and Rosa (Westphal) Luhrs was born May 22, 1927 in Primghar, Iowa. She received her education in Paullina and graduated from Paullina High School in 1944. On August 27, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward Horstmann at the Horstmann family home near Calumet, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed the Horstmann family farmstead where they farmed for many years. The couple's retirement years have been spent on the family farm. Elaine passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Baum-Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, reaching the age of 84 years, 8 months and 28 days.
She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet and had taught Sunday school at the church for over 20 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family especially watching her grandchildren in baseball and softball games. Elaine was a very good cook being known for her outstanding chocolate chip cookies. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing, playing cards, dancing and traveling.
Elaine leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Edward of Sutherland; one daughter and her husband, Vicki and Doug Stanford of Cedar Falls, Iowa and one son and his wife, Mark and Jo Horstmann of Sutherland; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother, Wally and his wife, Lori Luhrs of Okoboji, Iowa and one sister and her husband, Nadine and Bob Faust of Paullina; also other relatives and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Delores Manley, Donaline Click and Peg Gaudian.
