EFFIE S. WOHLERT
Effie Sophia Bertha (Otte) Wohlert, the daughter of Charles and Dora (Schierholz) Otte, was born March 7, 1908 in rural Peterson, Iowa. She received her education in country schools. She was united in marriage to John Wohlert in 1928 and the couple farmed in rural Sutherland, Iowa. Effie made her home in Sutherland, Hartley, Spirit Lake and later moved to retire in Calumet in 1973. Her retirement years were spent in Calumet and she later moved to the Sutherland Care Center in March of 2000. She passed away at the care center on Wednesday, November 23, 2005, reaching the age of 97 years, 8 months and 16 days.
She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Calumet and the Women’s Fellowship of the church. She enjoyed fishing, quilting, playing cards, baking for family and friends, flowers and watching the birds at the bird feeders.
Effie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Darlene and her husband, Jack Muhs of Kansas City, Missouri; Donald and his wife, Delores Wohlert of Morton, Illinois; Donna and her husband, Fred Sauter of Madrid, Iowa and Daniel and his wife, Sharla Wohlert of Kansas City, Kansas; a daughter-in-law, Joanne Wohlert of Spirit Lake, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marie and her husband, Bill Daum of Sutherland, Iowa; also nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a son, Delbert; four grandchildren; her parents; two sisters and a brother.
