EDWARD R. BARNES

Edward Richard Barnes, the son of Peter E. and Mae Margaret (Hienes) Barnes, was born September 18, 1914 in Marshall, Minnesota. He received his education in a country school near George, Iowa and later graduated from the George High School on May 29, 1932. On February 27, 1935, he was united in marriage to Emma Hollander in George, Iowa. The couple lived in Matlock, Iowa from 1937 until 1942, when they moved to a farm near, Balaton, MN, where they farmed until moving to Tracy, Minnesota. The couple moved to Sheldon, Iowa in 1957, where they operated a café for six years. He worked for Aalfs Manufacturing in Sheldon until his retirement in 1977. The couple remained in Sheldon until moving to Storm Lake, Iowa in August of 1996. His wife preceded him in death on December 7, 1996 in Storm Lake. The last several years, Ed has been a resident of the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. He passed away at the manor on Saturday, April 9, 2005, reaching the age of 90 years, 6 months and 21 days.
He was a long time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheldon and was currently a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He enjoyed woodworking, sports and spending time with his family.
Ed leaves to cherish his memory four children, LaDonn her husband, David Evans of Lake Forrest, California; Norman and his wife, MaryAnn Barnes of Fort Lupton, Colorado; Judy and her husband, Gary Randall of Storm Lake, Iowa; Douglas and his wife, Judy Barnes of Dallas, Texas; also 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; a granddaughter, Teri Barnes; his parents; three brothers and two sisters.
