EDNA EILEEN FINN
Edna Eileen Finn was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on May 28, 1927. She was the daughter of Jens Peter and Ida (Mogensen) Jensen. Sioux City was home to her family during her early years. They later moved to a farm near Salix, Iowa where Edna graduated from a local high school. She attended Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska, for a year and then returned to Salix to teach at the elementary school. While she was in college, Edna met her future husband, Richard Finn. They were married on May 18, 1949, at Alexandria, Virginia, while Richard was serving in the United States Army. When Richard was discharged, they returned to Nebraska. Over the next 65 years, Edna and Richard acquired a long list of addresses, neighbors and friends, living at various times in Nebraska, Kansas, Arizona, Texas and Iowa. They raised a family of six children; five sons and a daughter. They most recently made their home in Sheldon, Iowa. Edna passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Sanford Sheldon Medical Center in Sheldon, Iowa reaching the age of 87 years, 8 months and 22 days.
Edna was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church in Sheldon and of the ladies guild. She was a devoted convert to the Catholic faith. One of her great joys in life was working with young people in the churchs religious education programs. She had many fond memories of the lives she touched.
Edna is survived by her husband, Richard and their children, Michael (Ava) Finn of Frisco, TX; James (Linda) Finn of Rolling Meadows, IL; Richard Finn of Tucson, AZ; Brian Finn of Williams, AZ; Karen (Barry) Sterk of Sheldon, IA and Stephen (Susan) Finn of Ridgefield, CT. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Matthew Finn, Melissa Finn, Stephanie Finn, Sarah Demay, Joseph Finn, Kelsey Sterk, Andrew Sterk, Jonathan Sterk, Hannah Finn and Joshua Finn and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Catherine (Laursen) Finn; her parents and a sister, Mildred Chaffin.
Words are not sufficient to express the familys appreciation for the care Edna received at Cobble Creek Assisted Living and Sanford Sheldon Medical Center during the past month. Ednas husband and children will be forever grateful to everyone who provided care and comfort in the final chapter of her life.
