DWIGHT E. BLANKERS

Dwight Eugene Blankers, the son of Cornelius “Case” and Alice (Vander Haar) Blankers, was born August 1, 1931 in Sheldon, Iowa. He attended country school in the Sheldon area and received his G.E.D. in 1954, while he was in Korea; he also received his High School Diploma in 2005. Dwight served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict as an Assistant Chaplin. After the service he returned to Sheldon and was united in marriage to Mildred Lugene Horn on June 6, 1956 at the United Presbyterian Church in Boyden. The couple made their home on a farm south of Matlock, Iowa for 24 years. In 1979, they moved to their current home place where they have lived for the past 25 years. Dwight was a farmer, an auctioneer and a realtor for ARI Realty. He retired in 1993. Dwight passed away on Friday, July 29, 2005 at the Sioux Center Community Hospital and Health Center in Sioux Center, reaching the age of 73 years, 11 months and 29 days.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. He was an ordained elder in the United Presbyterian Church of Boyden, Iowa and is an associate member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, Florida and was very active in the choir. He was a member of the Journeymen Quartet, Boyden American Legion Wm. Monster Post 272 and Prairie Queen Kiwanis. He was a co-founder of the Lyon – Sioux Rural Water Association, founder of the Iowa Rural Water Association and co-founder of the National Rural Water Association. Presently he was involved with Mano-A-Mano (hospital mission work), he was on the Financial Board of Directors, the Activity Board and the Singing Men for the Golf Lakes Mobile Estates in Bradenton, Florida. He enjoyed singing, golfing, fishing, walking on the beach, farming, auctioneering and selling real estate. Dwight enjoyed people and being a Grandpa. His motto was, “I want to leave this world a better place than when I came”.
Dwight leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 49 years, Mildred of Sheldon; and their four children, Juleen Faye and her fiancé, Mark Krings of New Market, Minnesota; David Elwin of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Larae Joy and her husband Jeff Morlan of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Dwayne Edwin and his fiancée, Rhonda Clark of Waldorf, Maryland; five grandchildren, Lindsay and Brett Loomis; Adelyn, Emily and Hannah Morlan; two brothers and their wives, Glenn and Trudy Blankers of Boyden, Iowa; Harold and Aletha Blankers of Newport Richey, Florida; a sister-in-law, Muriel and her husband, Gary Van Der Wilt of Sheldon, Iowa; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lee Blankers.
